Knowing I had one week as a California wedding photographer, I decided to do another shoot in a place I’ve been crushing on for awhile now – the epic Joshua Tree National Park. With the sun still harsh as the late evening rolled in, we embraced the desert heat, Joshua Trees and amazing rocky landscapes.
I was connected with Nancy a few days after putting out a model call and she was the perfect desert goddess I’d been looking for. We exchanged a few emails to perfect the vision and just a week later met up in the middle of the desert.
I encouraged Nancy to be herself and it helped me to re-learn the art of slowing down with my camera. Wedding days can be hectic and it’s often I need to remind myself to just watch, wait and find the perfect shot to showcase the mood, moment or personality.
This mini shoot inspired me so much and made me add a Joshua Tree desert wedding to my list of things I get to shoot one day, that’s for sure.
Travel is something I’m incredibly passionate about and California is one of my favourite places. If you’re eloping to California or having a destination wedding in California, get in touch!
Add working with bloggers to the list of things I love, especially this girl, Meagan! Now, I wouldn’t call myself the next ‘edmonton fashion photographer’ but I love working with women who have this love and skill for fashion, know what they want and have a goal in sight when they reach out to me.
Whether they’re a fashion, lifestyle, beauty or home decor blogger or a mix of all of the above, there’s something about each session that set’s my little heart on an inspiration kick that lasts days, if not even longer.
Meagan knows all about fashion, has insane makeup skills, knows how to treat her skin well and is an all around beauty blogger and vlogger. Her makeup tutorials on her Instagram feed make me envious every time and finally meeting her in real life, I can assure you it’s flawless!
Hanging out with Meagan for an hour or so led us around Edmonton with our first stop on Jasper Avenue, next to the Alberta Legislature Building and finally my newest favourite coffee shop, the Little Brick Cafe. As most of you Albertans know, Edmonton can get brutally cold and mother nature certainly wasn’t letting up that day so we did our best to get in as many outfits as possible before Meagan turned into a popsicle. Thankfully our last stop was a much needed latte thanks to Little Brick!
You know that feeling when it feels like you’ve known someone forever? That’s the connection between the McWink’s and I.
I photographed their wedding, encouraged Marianne to follow her dreams of being a wedding planner, watched their oldest daughter grow up way too fast, helped her rebrand her business over an intense lunch date, watched her grow baby number two and one of my favourites was getting to photograph them again as a documentary photographer.
The McWink family has a special place in my heart and now that baby number two has made his arrival, I can’t wait to head home to Ottawa and photograph the again soon!
Their session took place in their home and was filled with some of the sweetest moments. Together they made smoothies, read Ellie’s favourite photo book, and so much more that picking favourites for this post was so tough so a few of my favourite memories from their session below aren’t shown.
I hope when Marianne and Ryan look back at these photos they remember:
the point when she was able to do up buttons all on her own
when Dad had to give the couch a talking to for hurting her leg
how she tooted in the middle of making smoothies and was more than proud to share
how much she loved looking at pictures of them as a family
her ‘muscles’ pose
how she loved playing hide and seek in the closet with Dad
her cherry tomato filled cheeks
how she would lick Dad’s nose as karma for teaching her to do just that
her crazy monkey abilities and no fear approach to life
how she would stand on Dad’s feet to dance in the living room
Feel free to add some ambiance to the images

If you find yourself falling in love with my approach to family photography that consists of real life moments and genuine smiles, I couldn’t be more excited.
A year ago, I put lifestyle photography on pause to focus on my work as a wedding photographer and rebrand myself. Since moving, I’m excited to say that I’ve decided to hope back into it as 2017 rolls around and continue on my journey as a lifestyle photographer in Edmonton.
Lifestyle photography has always been one of my favourites to be honest. I love capturing the moments of my client’s lives and expressions of their little ones at each stage as they grow up.
With my website being in the middle of an update, she reached out anyway inquiring for lifestyle photos of her brand new baby girl, Lauren and I’m so glad she did. We hung out for a half hour at their home, chatted about life with a new addition and laughed at Lauren’s big brother of a dog Gus’ need to be in every photo we took.
Just in time for Christmas, Lauren arrived happy and healthy and without a doubt, Stacy and Shawn’s favourite gift this year.

She’s a dear friend of mine I met when I first joined the yoga community in Ottawa. Getting know Chelsy and see where she has taken the talents she has has been inspiring. She’s the purest example I’ve met to date about honestly following your heart’s passion.
Chelsy’s current venture is becoming a Kundalini Yoga Teacher at PranaShanti here in Ottawa to add onto her list of offerings including intuitive healing mandalas and being a Crystal Healing and Metaphysical Practitioner. You can also find her at many of the craft shows in the area and on Etsy selling her crystal healing jewellery of which I own some myself that I often find any excuse to wear.
Our goal for Chelsy’s editorial session was to focus on her brand as a whole which suits my style immensely aka white on white. The vision included as much white as we could possibly incorporate with a hint of pinks, peaches and blues to match her current website and a pop of green to add some life. She had predetermined the mudras and poses she wanted to feature and overall it was a session that left me feeling refreshed and energized after wedding season.
