Being a wedding photographer in Edmonton, it’s obvious that I love photographing couples but it’s not often that I get to shoot a couples session when a couple isn’t engaged. I was so excited to hear from Rhiannon when she wanted just that – an Edmonton River Valley couples session with her boyfriend Aarron. It was a great reminder that you don’t have to be engaged, or have hit a big milestone in your relationship to have an excuse for getting lifestyle couple photos done.
They wanted a fall couples session but with most of the leaves already gone, I got creative and found a spot in the River Valley with big rocks that felt a little bit more adventurous than the usual muddy shores. Embracing the rather chilly weather and rain that started halfway through their session, Rhiannon and Aarron were two such genuine and fun people to photograph. They covered up with the blanket they brought when the rain started and didn’t miss a beat.
My favourite part of their couples session was listening to them tell me how they met. Their eyes lit up when they remembered each little thing that happened right down to the costumes they wore that Halloween. The emotions and moments this simple question brought are exactly what I hope to photograph for every couple.
