Where do I even begin with Sarah and Rick’s Fairmont MacDonald wedding?
Their relationship started at Central Social Hall where they met for the first time both somewhat recognizing each other from their mutual friends. The rest fell into place as I’m sure you can imagine.
Sarah and Rick are more fun than most people I know, honestly! They embrace the awkward, love the ridiculous and never take themselves too seriously. I mean their nicknames for each other are Ricky Bobby and Big Red so… If they started a comedy show, you can bet I’ll be first in line. I’ve never laughed so much between their downtown engagement session and their wedding day!
The girls got ready at the Fairmont MacDonald hotel in downtown Edmonton so they were just a quick elevator ride to the ceremony in the Wedgewood room. Being a winter wedding in January, I’m sure the ladies appreciated this. Sarah’s dress was absolutely out of this world gorgeous and had a train that was at least four feet long! Rick also kept it extra classy and chose a custom suit from Harry Rosen.
After saying their “I dos”, we explored the Fairmont MacDonald both inside and out to take advantage of all the magic and beauty it holds. From the patio to the stairwells, the iconic building has become one of my Edmonton favourites.
The party literally never stopped for a moment on Sarah and Rick’s wedding day! I swear they popped more champagne bottles in a few hours than I have in my lifetime. As mentioned, we made a pit stop to Central Social Hall for a quick bite, cheers and very special photo in the exact spot they met. The flooring might not be the same after this many years, but it was one of the best moments of the day. You could almost see them both go back in their minds to they day they first met…
You might not agree that the Fairmont MacDonald and Yellowhead Brewery “fit” together, but on this day they did. The two venues were the perfect mixture of Rick and Sarah’s taste and personality. They kept the decor simple with runners made of greenery, hand-calligraphed table numbers and a doughnut wall, of course.
I could go on for ever but I’ll wrap this up and say, the night continued with more laughs, partying, and even a Congo line!
Sarah and Rick, I don’t start my cards I’ve sent to you on the opposite side for no reason. I love you both and I’m so glad that we were connected! Thank you so much for everything. Your wedding day was one I cannot stop talking about in so many ways, to so many people and I’ve been itching to share it for weeks. I’m sitting here with oodles to say yet I’m not sure it would really do how I feel justice. Cheers to such an epic day!
PS, Rick is an Oilers fan ;)
