Months ago, I met Ben and Steph, a sweet couple who asked me to shoot their engagement photos. On the busiest day in the history of Gatineau Park, we miraculously found each other and the rest is history… sort of.
We spent a couple hours getting to know each other and as their session was coming to an end, Ben and Steph asked me if I would shoot their destination wedding in Jamaica the following April. As we discussed the details, I came to learn that Jamaica wasn’t just any other place for Ben and Steph; it was where they first met (…way to have the best love story ever, guys).
Both taking a much needed vacation, Ben from Ottawa and Steph from Chicago, their paths crossed and then started their journey to today.
Ben and Steph’s wedding took place at the Secrets Wild Orchid Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica and was one of the most emotional weddings I’ve ever been to. From love notes, to handwritten vows, to a sweet father daughter first look and some heart wrenching first dances, I assure you that even my waterproof mascara was gone that day.
The events continued with a hilarious and incredibly welcoming family and group of friends that were sure to make Ben and Steph’s wedding one to remember. Before the evening bonfire, dancing and yoga battles started one of Steph’s best friends , both of who are also named Steph (what are the chances?! honestly…) was even challenged by the bartender to a mai tai chugging contest (scroll down to see who won).
Opting for a quick day after session the following evening, we spent our last hour of daylight taking advantage of all the resort had to offer until the sun had finally set.
Ben and Steph, epic doesn’t even begin to describe my experience as your wedding photographer. I’m literally left speechless and yes, I may or may not have been sitting here for the last 30 minutes typing, backspacing and endlessly rewriting how to share the amount of gratitude I have for you both. I’ve never been so welcomed by such a large group of strangers in my life and then to have walked away being able to call all of your family and friends, friends of my own is overwhelming. I assure you, you two are the reason why what I do is never considered “work”. Steph, from your ChiKAYgo accent and Ben to our mutual love for Prince Ea (the guy who makes the “friend lists / friendless” videos), you’re both amazing people that I’m so blessed to have connected with and I wish you all the absolute best!
