The Benefits of Hiring a Business Coach

Business

Entrepreneurs are so focused on the future that you may as well call us time travellers. The thing is, looking ahead is really the only way to be prepared and to grow. That’s why if you own a business, you’ve probably been thinking about next year for several months already.

Owning a business can sometimes feel like a total shot in the dark, especially if you’re doing it all on your own. If you’ve ever struggled with this, believe me when I say you’re not alone. Whether you’re getting your business off the ground or struggling to understand where to go next, there comes a time in every entrepreneur’s journey to reach out for a helping hand. When I was first starting out as an Edmonton brand photographer, I had many mentors to help me along the way and I know I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t had them on my team!

As an Edmonton business coach, I know it can be difficult to invite someone else into the business you’ve worked so hard to build, but if you select the right person it can also be the best choice you could make. The most important thing to remember is that success rarely happens in a vacuum, so in the spirit of making 2022 your best year in business yet, I’ve put together a few reasons why you should hire a business coach.

A Business Coach Is the Neutral Third-Party

A business coach’s duty is to step in as an unbiased and neutral third party. These professionals help reveal any blind spots or opportunities that you may not have seen through your biased lens. This can be especially helpful if you’re in a situation where a strategy that was once working is no longer working, or you just don’t know how to move forward. Decisions can be paralyzing, especially when your business’s health is at stake, so it can be a real help to have someone you can trust to give you their honest feedback from a strategic standpoint.

Business coaches also have knowledge that you may not have, so they can provide recommendations outside of your own knowledge, which is an important resource!

They Provide Constructive Feedback

Sometimes the emotional connections to our businesses can cloud judgement and make it difficult to make business decisions confidently and clearly. It’s common for entrepreneurs to see their business through rose-colored glasses, but a coach won’t see it the same way.

If this sounds intimidating, it’s not meant to be. Remember that coaches are there to help you by revealing opportunities, not by focusing on your failures. With that said, coaches help you leave your ego at the door so that you can dive deeper. They’re experts in pinpointing paths for you to take and provide you with plenty of data and reasoning behind each piece of feedback.

They Help You Find Comfort In The Uncomfortable

It’s easy to stay in the status quo because it’s the easiest path, but growth never happens when we’re comfortable. One of the best reasons to hire a business coach is to help get you out of your comfort zone and take calculated risks and to be held accountable to it.

If you run a brand on your own, you’ve probably had to hold only yourself accountable, and while this is a worthwhile practice, it’s also easy to excuse ourselves from following through on goals or taking risks. A business coach won’t have the same leniency, and that’s a good thing!

A Business Coach Will Inspire Confidence

You’ve already started a business or you’ve made the decision to start one, which takes a lot of bravery and confidence. But even the best leaders are unsure of themselves at times. Building a brand is anxiety-inducing, and even minor setbacks can feel like a blow to your confidence. This is why confidence is at the root of all of my coaching sessions.

A business coach steps in to help you understand your business better, set better goals, and to give you a clearer idea of where it’s headed. All of which are necessary to feel greater confidence.

I hope these tips have helped you to see how hiring a business coach is an investment like any other that has the potential to provide you with significant return. I offer a variety of business coaching, including group coaching, 1:1 coaching, and clarity + confidence calls that will all help you map out a clearer path forward that guides you toward success. Ready to get started? Let’s get connected, I’d love to chat with you about your brand and goals!

  1. It was interesting to learn about how blind spots and opportunities can be revealed with a neutral third party like a business coach. I can understand how a company could really benefit from being coached on how to improve their company. Getting advice from a professional could allow them to be more effective.

  2. Peter Cheel says:

    Great article!
    Thanks for sharing.
And another benefit of hiring a business coach is they help business owners to improve their leadership quality.

  3. Daisy James says:

I really like how you said that they can help make clear decisions since they don’t have an emotional connection to your business. My cousin was at my house yesterday afternoon for lunch, and she was talking about how she wanted to find more ways to make her new business better for her clients. I’ll pass this information along to her so she can look into hiring a business coach.

Thanks for sharing Daisy! It’s so difficult at times when we’re “so close to the elephant” right? We simply can’t see what we can’t see. I would love nothing more, thank you so much for sharing with her.
